The two youngsters will compete against some of the best divers from around country New South Wales when the Wauchope Aquatic Centre hosts the 2021 NSW Country Diving Championships.
12-year-old Katie claimed a gold medal in 2019 at Lightning Ridge in the one-metre springboard division, so there is no doubt she is looking forward to a slightly shorter trip west on January 23.
"I started diving because I saw it on television at the last Olympics and then saw Wauchope had a club so I came out here for a come and try day and I loved it," she said.
"I'm looking forward to seeing all my friends that I haven't seen in a while and having a good go at my dives."
The St Columba Anglican School student's training program leading up to the championships has involved a few hours on a Saturday morning coupled with a few hours on Tuesday afternoon after school.
That amount of training has helped her gain confidence when performing off the three-metre platform.
"I used to be scared off the three-metre board until the last diving camp we had," she said.
"The coaches were really sweet and nice and they gave me a lot of confidence; I love doing a one and a half pike off the three metre.
"I find it really fun because it's really flowy."
Thirteen-year-old Riley will compete at his first country championship event having taken up the sport in 2018.
"I really enjoy the thrill when you get a new dive and the success you can have," he said.
"I don't know what to expect, but I am nervous."
While the teenager is more comfortable off the three-metre board, he prefers the one metre.
"You get more room to do tricks off the three metre so if you can't make something on the one metre you can have a go on the three metre," he said.
"Hopefully I get a medal, but it's how I do on the day and how other people are competing."
He said he was excited about seeing what the standard of diving was like from other clubs around the state.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how other people dive and what they can do."
