The ageing toilet block is set to be replaced with a state of the art facility as part of a bigger project coordinated by Sailability Port Macquarie.
The works include the demolition of the existing building and construction of a boat storage facility and public amenities, tree removal, landscaping and road works.
Sailability Port Macquarie is waiting on the final paperwork from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council before construction can start.
Four construction tenders are being evaluated.
The amenities and storage area will be built in stage one with landscaping, parking and painting to follow in the next stage.
Sailability Port Macquarie has raised $100,000 over an eight-year period towards the project.
The state government provided $250,000 through its Boating Now program and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council committed $120,000 to the project.
Sailability Port Macquarie president Bob Walsh said the upgrade would allow the group to store its boats at McInherney Park and the volunteers would be able to launch the boats from the shed.
The volunteer-based Sailability Port Macquarie offers sailing to people of all abilities.
The Port Macquarie Triathlon Club will also benefit from storage space.
The new amenities will feature disability-friendly toilets and changing facilities.
"It is an important commitment we have to ensure the state of the art amenities block is at McInherney Park," Mr Walsh said.
