Port Macquarie Museum's president Clive Smith said Museum Selfie Day was aimed at raising awareness of our history and cultural material collections and encouraged people to visit and interact with museums and collections in different and creative ways.
"We are offering free entry for the day to encourage people to take part," he said.
"Many years ago, museums didn't allow the use of cameras and Museum Selfie Day was a special day to encourage visitors to record and share their visit.
"These days, our museum visitors are actively encouraged to take photographs throughout the year and to share those photographs widely.
"Thanks to technology, museums like ours are increasingly able to reach and connect with audiences worldwide and to find new people to share our collections and stories with."
Mr Smith said Museum Selfie Day was yet another way we are making our collections and their stories accessible and encourages our visitors to review and share their experiences on social media.
Visitors will be invited to share their selfies at #PortMacquarieMuseum and #MuseumSelfieDay.
Museum Selfie Day provides an opportunity to explore and discover the local history collections of the Port Macquarie Museum, learn new things, have some fun, create memories, share experiences and stories and is a great free holiday activity for people of all ages.
The Port Macquarie Museum is located at 22 Clarence Street, Port Macquarie.
