Students and teachers in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region are lucky to have a passionate and talented educator like Ms Khamsone and it is clear that her award is well deserved.
Young Australians concern about climate change and the effect on their future lives is very apparent, particularly by their willingness to demonstrate in the streets.
But they are also showing more interest in environmental education and community programs.
University courses such as conservation, marine science and environmental management have seen a dramatic rise in popularity with a 15 to 40 percent increase in offers from 2019 to 2020.
Some of this is due to the inspirational teaching in Australian schools, but it is also due to the desire of young people to improve their world and make a difference.
They know they hold their future in their own hands.
