It is hoped the viewing platform will be complete by Christmas and offer locals and visitors to the region a place to enjoy one of the best views in town.
The work has been commissioned by the Friends of Mrs York's Garden thanks to a Stronger Country Communities grant of $95,000 in March.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams was on-site on November 25 to turn the first sod on the project which will be another feather in the cap of volunteers who have worked tirelessly for years to restore the original gardens of Amy Bertha York.
The platform will include disability access and will be a space to host functions and school visits in 2021.
It will continue the timber work features seen on infrastructure throughout the garden with guidance from Ron Window and volunteers at the Hibbard boatshed.
Works will be completed by Pacific Coast Carpentry.
