By the time round one rolls around next year, 601 days will have elapsed since the Breakers' last competitive fixture - a 38-26 defeat to Macleay Valley in the 2019 preliminary final.
A handful of the club's under-18s - including Brent Nixon - had a run in 2020 when Group 3 junior rugby league allowed the under-18s to join their competition.
And it will be those players who coach Dan Kemp will hope set the standard while some of their more senior teammates blow out the cobwebs.
"You've got to stick with your own a little bit more (in 2021)," Kemp said.
"The economy has certainly changed in rugby league like everywhere else, so the more of our own blokes coming through the ranks the better."
The Breakers will field a youthful squad with up to 15 of their under-18 players from the previous two seasons vying for senior positions.
"Usually you average two to three blokes who graduate from 18s each year which is nowhere near enough," the coach said.
"So we'll have a lot of young fellas ... it's a very young squad, but it's probably the most boys we've ever brought through from under-18s to senior footy which is really good."
While the Breakers will be fresh-faced, the usual names are all likely to return for another season.
Jake Kelly, Ricky Arnell, Mitch Fowler, Sean Barrett and Cody, Jarrod and Kyle Robbins will all be there when pre-season training starts on December 3.
They will be joined by the young brigade led by Jordie Gibson, Dane Perry, Brent Nixon, Mick Smith, Cody Fisher and Taj O'Brien.
Kemp said while the 2021 competition has not received the formal green light yet, Port City were likely to play more trial matches than ever.
"We'll have a very busy pre-season compared to normal," he said.
"I don't usually do a lot of trials, but seeing as the boys have been starved of footy we'll probably do more than ever.
"It's a bit hard to pencil in dates for trials at the moment, but I imagine that will happen pretty soon; before Christmas I'll make some phone calls."
