The 22-year-old was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma in late October.

A GoFundMe account was then set up by club treasurer Carissa Embling after she consulted with the Magpies committee discussing a way to help fund Moir's treatment.

Within 24 hours of going live, the tally had sailed past $10,000 and that number has now exceeded $20,000.

"We originally set the goal at $2000 and thought that would make a bit of a difference so we've been blown away with the amount we've received," Mrs Embling said.

Moir worked as a development officer with AFL North Coast in 2020 before his diagnosis and had put his hand up to coach the club's women's team before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

He also played alongside Mrs Embling's husband Jonathon in the club's reserve grade team in 2019.

But she said it was Moir's selfless nature and ability to make a difference in the community that were the reason for the unexpected amount raised so far.

"We reached the target because people know him and know how he'd be there for anyone," she said.

"Last year during the bushfires I got stuck in Newcastle after returning from Melbourne and had taken our family car to the airport.

"My husband had no way to get our son to school, but without thinking James went and picked them up and took him to school."

The Embling's have been "blown away" by the support, but know they also have made a difference.

"I can't imagine what it would be like to worry about finances as well as everything else," she said.

"So we got together as a committee. If we can take one stress away, James can focus on getting better."
