Port Macquarie's Teagan Berry learned the error of her ways and fixed them inside 10 minutes of her National Rugby League Women's debut for St George Illawarra.
The former All-Schools 100-metre sprint silver medallist could have had two tries in seven minutes when she ran out for the Red V in their 22-10 loss to the New Zealand Warriors on October 17.
Instead, the 18-year-old winger had to settle for one as her progression from rugby league newbie to NRLW star was complete.
"I didn't start playing footy until two years ago; I started off playing soccer and played for six years but I only started footy because my team asked me to," she said.
"When I scored I couldn't believe it and it still feels surreal because I wasn't meant to make my debut this year, it was just a development year for me so it was really exciting."
The teenager didn't have long to settle into her work as the Dragons shifted the ball to the left in just the fourth minute.
"It was my first touch so I wasn't really sure what to expect and I got taken out (over the sideline) which I was pretty cut about," she said.
Berry was drafted onto the wing courtesy of a last-minute injury during the captain's run before the game.
She said she had enjoyed the experience and was already looking at ways to improve her own game.
"From the first half I was so gassed on the wing but it was a great experience and they tackle a lot harder than the younger girls and it's a lot faster," she said.
"I'll work on my defence and get more confidence."
After spending a decade as a kid growing up in Port Macquarie and attending primary school at South West Rocks, the opportunity came to move.
Berry didn't need to be asked twice.
"There's not much in South West Rocks for us so everyone had to make a move for their future," she said.
