A $10,000 state government grant paved the way for a new irrigation system using stored reclaimed water.

The Community Building Partnership Program grant went towards the $15,000 project which delivered a water tank for recycled water storage, a pump and associated work.

The club provided the balance of the funds.

Port Macquarie Croquet Club president Bridget Earle said greenkeeper Les Short worked very hard to keep the grass alive during the drought months.

"He had to supplement the existing system which did not have enough water pressure to completely cover the courts," she said.

Mrs Earle said the new system would make an enormous difference.

The upgraded irrigation system will cover the Buller Street croquet courts and club grounds.

Mrs Earle acknowledged the part played by Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams in making the club aware of the grants program.

Mrs Williams flicked the switch to turn on the new irrigation system on Tuesday, October 6.

She acknowledged the committee for its leadership and encouraged the club to keep applying for grants.

The $10,000 allocation is the first grant the club has received.

Port Macquarie Croquet Club patron and mayor Peta Pinson said clubs were the fabric of our community.

She congratulated the club for securing the state government grant.

Jenny Edmunds from The Westport Club also congratulated the croquet club.
