At 6.30pm on Saturday (September 26) officers from the Mid North Coast Police District were alerted about a suspicious item found on the beach off North Wall Road, on the North Shore of Port Macquarie.
Police investigated the area and then cleared all fishermen from the beach.
A crime scene was established.
The Specialist Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit were called and arrived on scene on Sunday morning.
The device was rendered safe and has been seized by police for further investigation.
