Daniel Brooks, 24, of Hill Street, appeared in the Port Macquarie Local Court on September 10.
He appeared before magistrate Georgina Darcy.
He pleaded guilty to contravening an AVO and being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
Both charges relate to incidents that occurred on April 21, 2020.
Three other charges, common assault and two counts of stalk or intimidate with intent were withdrawn.
Police facts submitted to court indicate that Brooks threatened to smash the victim's car after being woken up.
The victim contacted police but Brooks went to kitchen where he returned with a "meat cleaver" with a blade about 15cm long and 10cm wide.
Brooks confronted the victim saying: "I'll stab you".
The victim told Brooks the police were coming, the documents show.
Brooks told the victim: "Come out to the park and I'll smash ya, I'll stab ya".
Police arrested at the scene.
Brooks also pleaded guilty to two further charges of, contravening an AVO and larceny - the theft of a Playstation valued at $300.
Both these charges relate to incidents on August 14, 2019.
Brooks was sentenced to serve nine months in jail with a non-parole period of four months from April 17, 2020.
Magistrate Darcy also sentenced Brooks to serve a community corrections order for 12 months and abstain from drug use.
