Senior and junior competitions are about to begin in the second week of October and a new look clubhouse has been unveiled in Port Macquarie.
And the future couldn't look brighter, said Port Macquarie Touch Association referee director Greg Oaten.
The redevelopment of the clubhouse at the Tuffins Lane sports fields has been on the cards for years and cost around $80,000 to complete.
Project manager and referees director Greg Oaten, who has been a director since 2013, said the committee decided upgrades were needed almost 20 years ago.
"The original clubhouse was built by volunteers about 40 years ago when the competition first started. Committee members recognised there was a need for a new clubhouse," he said.
"There were challenges because it is a flood plain here, you need the owner's agreement to build anything and approval from the council as well as a number of other factors to consider.
"It's a complex thing to undertake but after last year a proposal was put forward to improve the site in stages. Refurbishment as a stage one, stage two would be reaching out to the members in consultation before Christmas and stage three construction.
"The refurbishment has been funded by the club from money raised over the years. The facility has been upgraded with new security, the speaker systems have been fixed up, an inner stairwell has been replaced, two new brick canteen windows installed, railings and roofing replaced."
Mr Oaten said the directors of Port Touch led by president Wayne Prince have adopted a three stage approach to improving the building with the strong support of outgoing directors Min Cotter and Brent Steep.
The first stage involving refurbishment of the existing building has already been completed.
The next stage will feature design and approvals for a new building or extension and installation of a covered concrete slab for the Port Makos marquee at State Cup and Junior State Cup. Stage three will involve construction and fit out of the new building.
Mr Oaten thank club committee members Chris Veech, Daryl Fletcher, Paul and Julie Seward who drove the fundraising over many years.
"My gut feeling is that there will be an extension of what we have from the storage area that we have," he said.
