The new Sharks team will compete in a six week competition at the end of the year, their first game is on October 17.
The team was organised during August and has already attracted around 18 interested players.
"I wanted to organise it because of the love of the sport. I usually play for the Beechwood Shamrocks but we couldn't get any players this year," Ms Todd said.
"Pretty much we just got a heap of girls together and asked around to organise the team. I want more teams in the competition so that other girls have more options.
"I was pleased with the response from potential players. There are some girls on the team who have played touch rugby but not tackle. That's fine because there are also girls on the team who can teach and guide new players.
"We're not going out to win outright or anything, we're just trying to get more girls into playing the sport. Having a new team provides more options for local girls to play."
Ms Todd has been playing footy for seven years, two with the Shamrocks and has organised a Sharks support crew including League Safe staff, physio and strapper.
"It's been pretty stressful but we are ready to start training and we have a coach organised," she said.
"We meet at 6pm at the regional stadium on Thursday nights for training. I'd recommend that people thinking of playing should give it a go and put yourself out there. It's a great experience."
Female players over the age of 17 can join the side. To join the team phone 0457 666 080.
