Residents are invited to have their say on the plan via the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council website.
The project cost is $613,000, with $301,000 contributed under a NSW State Government Stronger Communities Fund, obtained by the Lake Cathie Bonny Hills Lions Club
Council contributed the remaining $312,000 as part of the 2020/21 financial year Operational Plan.
Lake Cathie Skate and Recreation Park president Mick Fullbrook said he's ecstatic with the plan after working tirelessly for 15 years to see the project come to fruition.
"The new design is amazing," he said.
The plan includes four areas for recreational use and is designed to cater for all ages and levels of experience.
Mr Fullbrook expects the skate park will attract tourists to Lake Cathie and will be beneficial for the local economy.
"It's going to bring plenty of business opportunity to the area," he said.
However, not everyone is happy with the plan for the skate park to proceed.
Some community members from Lake Cathie have raised concerns online about the location of the skate park, which will be situated across the road from the Lake Cathie Bowling Club.
They have also questioned why the funding can't be spent to address ongoing environmental concerns at the location.
Lake Cathie resident Stewart Cooper said the skate park shouldn't be the first thing people see when they drive into the village.
He believes other locations would be better suited to hosting a skate park development.
Mr Cooper also raised concerns the skate park might attract people to Lake Cathie who deliberately cause destruction to infrastructure.
Mr Fullbrook said the project has been a long time coming and there will always be some people who are against the project.
He said the location of the skate park was chosen specifically to allow for parental supervision instead of one which would be more isolated, such as near the sporting grounds.
