The project will now go to design phase while an environmental impact statement (EIS) and development application are prepared.
The project came before the August meeting of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
The Beach to Beach pathway project seeks to provide uninterrupted shared path between North Haven Beach and Pilot Head at Dunbogan.
Five sections of the path are yet to be designed and constructed. These sections are located on the Dunbogan side of the river.
As part of its 2020-2021 Operational Plan, council has commenced the detailed design and EIS for the remaining sections of the Beach to Beach Pathway project and engaged Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR) to complete these tasks.
KBR developed a concept options report detailing alignment options and have reviewed the positives and negatives of various alignments.
Based on the report, council has adopted the alignment on Camden Head Road between Seaview Avenue and Charles Hamey Lookout Road; and along Pilot Head Road, as the safer, more cost effective and equally considerate of environmental impacts options.
Consultation for this project is ongoing and council representatives attend monthly progress meetings with the B2B Committee.
As the project moves into the next phase engagement with the following community groups and agencies in the ongoing development and delivery of this project will continue. They include the Beach to Beach Committee, Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce, Bunyah Local Aboriginal Land Council, Friends of Kattang, Dunbogan Bushcare/Camden Haven Landcare, Camden Head Environment Network, National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) and Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), oyster growers, Camden Head Pilot Station lessees, Camden Haven Community College and Hastings Birdwatchers.
