The cold and windy conditions across the Mid North Coast are likely to continue in NSW and the ACT, with snowfalls expected in many low-lying areas by the weekend including Barrington Tops.
The Bureau of Meteorology has reported a series of vigorous cold fronts that are moving across the state bringing damaging winds to some parts.
The Bureau says extremely windy conditions are likely to continue into the weekend with daytime temperatures expected to be between 4 and 8 degrees below average matched by significant wind chill.
"Significant snowfall is expected across the Alps and to low-lying areas down to about 500-600m along the southern and central ranges, and to 1000m along the northern ranges," a Bureau spokesperson said.
"Locations which may be affected include Orange, Crookwell, the Blue Mountains, Barrington Tops, Armidale, Guyra and Goulburn. Some locations could experience a series of snow showers over 24-36 hours, starting Friday evening."
It was also a dusty start to Thursday morning (August 20) for the north-east of NSW. As it moves out to sea, the dust is expected to impact Lord Howe Island.
Day time temperatures are expected to hover between 18 and 21 degrees for Port Macquarie-Hastings into the weekend and down to 6 degrees overnight.
At Barrington Tops, snow is expected Friday and into the weekend with daytime temperatures not expected to get any higher than 5 degrees with the mercury to drop to as low as -2 degrees overnight into next week.
