Central Coast development managers RCI Group is spearheading the project on behalf of a developer and service station operator.

The service station - with an estimated cost of around $3.1 million - will be branded Mobil.

It will be sited on the front portion of the Melaleuca Caravan Park.

The Hastings River Drive project is a third for the development managers in the Port Macquarie area.

RCI Group is currently developing a further two service stations - one on the corner of Ocean Drive and Ackroyd Street, while the other service station development will be built on the corner of Gordon Street and Munster Street.

Managing director Stephen Moore said he had confidence in the Port Macquarie area.

"We do a number of these kinds of developments on behalf of this particular operator," he said.

"Our role is to identify the sites, work with the owners to negotiate a sale price before working with the local council.

"This includes organising and submitting development applications, architectural drawings, and undertaking traffic, civil plans.

"RCI Group is also responsible for ensuring that the build is completed on time and on budget."

Mr Moore said the Port Macquarie had been identified as a "good spot".

"Port Macquarie is a good town but a place where traditionally petrol prices have been quite high.

"We think there is a genuine lack of fresh competition.

"These developments will be good for the motoring public because we would expect, with competition, more competitive petrol pricing."

Along with the service station including fast food and associated car parking.

"There will be a balance (of area) remaining but we are still unsure of that use at this point," he added.

Contracts on the sale of the site were exchanged in April and a DA has been lodged with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.

He was hopeful of receiving council approval prior to Christmas.

Mr Moore said he expected the construction phase to take around four months and would include the demolition of some existing buildings on the sites.

"There are two permanent residents on the site and we hope to find them suitable relocation homes shortly.

"We are actively searching for relocations for these residents.

"There are also four or five other rentals on the site."
