Port Macquarie News spoke to local real estate experts about what home buyers can expect and changes in the real estate market.
Belle Property Port Macquarie principal Sue Jogever said real estate agents and buyers were placing importance on COVID-19 safe practices during home inspections and in offices.
"We're registering, we're hand sanitising and social distancing. It's allowing people to feel comfortable in open homes or as private buyers," she said.
"In the market we are still seeing strong metro movement up here. Buyers are getting closer to the asking price and have become more motivated to act quickly.
"We are finding people are more interested in finding something that's already here, rather than on a plan. They want a bricks and mortar property. Some of the new builds are not as appealing as a property with space that they can renovate and put some money towards.
"I think people have seriously looked at working remotely during COVID-19 and have then decided they can work in Port Macquarie rather than Sydney towers.
"Productivity, lifestyle and such are all boxes we tick. People are realising the time to move is now, they'd rather be here in COVID than in Sydney."
Percival Property principal Michelle Percival said the market is extremely busy and enquiry rates are high.
"We talked to over 70 groups of people over the weekend within our team. People are getting out of the cities to relocate," she said.
"COVID has really crystalised peoples decisions about what they want in their life. They have made big decisions to move out of the city to a quieter area with less exposure.
"There are huge numbers of people looking for small acreage and the rural side of our market is massive at the moment. We are getting calls from Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and even from Western Australia.
"I think Port Macquarie is being recognised as a strong regional town with its own airport, health facilities and university with the beauty of the town. We live in paradise really.
"It used to be that people wanted to go to Sydney, now they want to come out of Sydney after realising they can work from home and not in an office block. That's changing everything.
"It is a good time to sell because there isn't a lot of property on the market, the levels of listings are very low but the buyers are there. People have had a lot of time to think about renovating, upgrading, investing or changing homes.
"The fact that people don't need to be in the city, that's the biggest change."
