The Surf@Home campaign is part of a series of Homelessness Week events announced by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Homelessness Committee.
Committee member Lisa Willows encourages people to get involved in the Surf@Home campaign and raise money which will stay locally.
"I think it will give you a greater empathy of what people living without a home in the Port Macquarie area are going though," she said.
The committee's aim is to raise enough money to provide lockers in Port Macquarie for people living without a home in the Hastings.
Funds are additionally used to support weekly breakfasts at Kooloonbung Creek.
A drop-in centre is the ultimate goal.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Homelessness Committee member Tracey Rogerson said the Homelessness Week campaign would also bring greater awareness of the services available in the area.
Surf@Home campaign participants will raise funds through sponsorship to sleep on their couch during Homelessness Week 2020 from August 2 to 8.
Register to take part in the Surf@Home campaign at the Eventbrite website or go to the Port Macquarie Hastings Homelessness Awareness Facebook page for more information.
Friends and family can lend their financial support through the GoFundMe page or cash donations can be dropped off at New Horizons in Port Macquarie.
People can also donate directly to the GoFundMe page, and once $5000 is reached, Tracy McColgan from The Buttery and Tracey Rogerson from New Horizons will sleep rough in Port Macquarie for a week.
The pair will document their struggles through Facebook and Instagram to raise awareness about homelessness.
"People sleep rough and still hold a job," Mrs Rogerson said.
"It could be so easy to go from having a home to not having a home."
Mrs McColgan also pledged her support to sleeping rough for a week when the $5000 target is reached.
"I feel passionate about this," she said about raising awareness.
Another way to help is to drop off toiletries at donation bins set up during Homelessness Week in IGA stores, Lake Cathie Community Centre, Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre and in Laurieton.
A further event on August 6 will provide meals to people experiencing homelessness.
Appropriate support services will be in attendance and goods will be distributed to those in need.
Taking part in hosting the events are New Horizons, Lifeline Mid Coast, Community Housing, Orange Sky Laundry, Vinnies Hastings Accommodation Solutions, Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre, The Buttery, Headspace, YP Space, Mid North Coast Legal Centre, Neami National, The Hope Shop, Make A Difference, Port Macquarie Clinic 33, Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service and Booroongen Community Care Services.
