Weather bureaus are warning there is potential for a low pressure system to form somewhere between the Mid North Coast and south coast.
Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said Sunday might bring some thunderstorms to the region, most likely to hit in the afternoon.
"Some areas could get moderately heavy rainfall on Sunday," he said.
"Most likely to the north and west, but we're really only talking 20mm."
Mr Dutschke said Tuesday is set to see strong winds impact the coastal areas.
"At this stage it looks like there will be two or three days of noticeably strong wind," he said.
Given the nature of the low pressure system, there is a lot of uncertainty about how intense the weather might be.
"They are notoriously hard to predict accurately," Mr Dutschke said.
"What I see at this stage is for wind to be around 30 to 40km/h around the coast," he said.
"But with gusts of 60 to 70km/h."
Temperatures are predicted to be around average for this time of year, with the daily maximum reaching around 19 degrees.
Mr Dutschke said the nights might be warmer than average, given the additional cloud cover due to possible storms.
NSW SES is encouraging residents to clean roofs, gutters and downpipes, trim trees branches away from property and secure down outdoor items and furniture as a way of preparing their property for severe weather.
NSW SES Northern Zone Deputy Commander Tony Day said the current COVID-19 environment presents additional considerations for emergency services in responding to severe weather events.
"So the most practical way the community can help should the heavy rain eventuate is to avoid all non essential travel and to never drive, ride or walk through floodwaters," he said.
The SES recommends people monitor the NSW Bureau of Meteorology for any severe weather warnings regarding heavy rain or riverine flood warnings.
