Group meetings were halted as choir members isolated in their homes due to COVID-19 restrictions and health guidelines.

School of Hard Knocks Absolutely Everybody Choir spokeswoman Sue English said COVID-19 had forced the choir into recess like everyone else.

"With many of our members being particularly vulnerable, health wise it was especially important to keep safe during this time," she said.

"For many of our vulnerable members the choir is a vital link to overcoming isolation and loneliness. Accompanist Mat Brooker was given the job of coming up with a project to help everyone stay connected."

The Virtual Choir Performance Project was created to help ease the isolation. It includes many songs written and performed by choir members.

Members could record their vocal track or instrumental individually at home or at the Makerspace recording studio.

"Appropriately the name of the song that the choir chose to send out into their community and beyond is "Share the Love"," Ms English said.

"The words exemplify the philosophy of this beautiful choir and the simple joy in their message reminds us all to show love and care to the people around us. Reach out a helping hand and be the best version of ourselves."

The choir is aiming to reassemble on Tuesday, July 28 depending on health guidelines and availability.

Hastings Choristers choir group originally suspended rehearsals on March 20 when the risks associated with coronavirus became apparent.

HC president Dr Colleen Smee said the choir had decided against Zoom rehearsals because membership were not comfortable with the technology and would find the experience confronting.

"Since rehearsals were suspended our musical director Robyn Ryan OAM has been sending a weekly email to our members which includes general news about staying safe re Covid 19, singing tips, help with practising the music," Dr Smee said.

"The aim of the weekly email entitled Rob's Ramblings, is to help keep members positive and optimistic, even though choristers were isolated in their own homes."

The changes this year have postponed the HC's 30th year celebration performance at the Glasshouse Port Macquarie, originally planned for August. It has since been moved to May 29 next year.

Committee members of Hastings Choristers attended Zoom ANCA and other Webinar meetings, writing Risks Management Health and Safety Strategy plans during the lockdown.

"The committee has been very active since rehearsals have been suspended and we have had constant email contact between committee members and once restrictions were lifted to allow 10 people to gather, we had a very productive face-to-face meeting," said Dr Smee.

"The main issue now is when to resume rehearsals safely. We are monitoring the health advice closely and hope that we may be able to rehearse again together by mid-August.

"Due to the latest resurgence of coronavirus in Victoria we are being very cautious about making the decision to resume rehearsals, particularly as many of our membership are in the age risk category."
