The Wauchope Bicentenary Riverside Sculptural Trail, will take visitors on a fascinating and thought-provoking artistic journey along the banks of the Hastings River, and aims to be a treasured feature of the popular Foreshore Walk at Rocks Ferry Reserve.
Depicting the history of Wauchope, and with a particular focus on life on the river, the sculpture trail will encompass our natural, Aboriginal, European and community history interpreted in a creative way... through sculpture and art form.
Artists have the opportunity to creatively interpret the history of life on the Hastings River, and to tell the story of Wauchope, its people, its history and heritage.
"The Hastings River is central to the history of Wauchope and our entire region, with particular significance to the Birpai people who lived on its banks long before European settlement," council group manager, Liesa Davies said.
"The river has supported our community's trade for timber and dairy, and has been the lifeblood of our region, connecting communities, and providing many fascinating stories throughout its rich history," Ms Davies said.
"The opportunity to bring these stories to life through art and sculpture will be a wonderful addition to the Rocks Ferry foreshore, and is sure to become a popular destination for locals and visitors."
Five locations will be featured along the sculpture trail, and the selected artists will have the opportunity to partner with local businesses and manufacturers to help bring their creative vision to life.
Expressions of interest for artists to contribute to the Riverside Sculptural Trail are open from Tuesday 16 June until Sunday 12 July, with applications to be assessed by the Project Reference Group comprising Bunyah Local Aboriginal Land Council, arts, heritage, business and council representatives.
More information is available at pmhc.nsw.gov.au/riverside-sculptural-trail or by calling council on 6581 8111.
The Wauchope Bicentenary Riverside Sculptural Trail is being funded through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and is due for completion by April 2021.
