In this week's mayoral message Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Mayor Peta Pinson was talking with Alistair Flower, of the Flower Hotel group, who was excited by the doors re-opening.
"It's been tough time for the industry and it's just been great that it looks like restrictions are easing and we're getting back to some kind of normality ," he said.
"And going to the pub and have a schnitzel is a part of that."
Mr Flower said there was a "bit of a queue" at the Settler's Inn at 10am on Monday when it reopened.
"Jobkeeper was great for us but unfortunately we did have to stand down many of the casuals," Mr Flower said.
"It was great to be able to make the phone calls when the announcement came through and get a few on them back on the books."

Mr Flower said check-ins and sanitiser stations were in place at his venues in to help keep patrons and staff safe.
His Port Macquarie and Wauchope venues opened this week, with the Lake Cathie Tavern due to open on Wednesday, June 10.
Cr Pinson said it was important to support local business who were the "heartbeat of our community", which at this time could be by buying a parma and a pint.
"They employ local people and then re-spend their money back in our community, so it's a constant wheel turning around," she said.
