Today (June 1) as the state rolls back COVID-19 restrictions even further, an art work at the Wrights Road roundabout, the entrance to Port Macquarie Base Hospital, says it all - thank you.
It is the perfect way to mark a milestone on the Mid North Coast. All 49 patients who have contracted coronavirus have recovered.
It is also a time to reflect. Our region lost one of its own at the hand of a virus that has stopped the world.
The mark of a mystery artist has been enjoyed by thousands of motorists who use the busy roundabout each day. And it is the perfect image to welcome our health care workers as they arrive to work.
From Monday, June 1, Hastings residents will take the next tentative step back toward normality. But it does come with a warning - be vigilant.
It is really important we continue physical distancing and good hygiene so we don't lose all those benefits from having those public health measures in place, North Coast Public Health Director Paul Corben said.
"It's good that those sort of tried and true measures have bought us a lot of time so the health system can be prepared. As people start to mix a lot more, the risk of the virus being transmitted increases and as people move around the state, the likelihood of there being cases increases."
In NSW from June 1:
- You can travel anywhere in NSW for a holiday.
- You can visit museums, galleries and libraries.
- Pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants can have a maximum of 50 customers.
- Beauty and nail salon operators can begin treatments under strict COVID-Safe guidelines.
- Up to 20 people can attend weddings, 50 people can attend funerals and 50 people can attend places of worship.
- Limits on visiting and gathering have not changed with 5 people allowed in your home including adults and children. 10 people may gather in a public place.
