Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie joined with representatives from Optus and the local community on May 29 to welcome the new the infrastructure.

Dr Gillespie said dropouts along the Pacific Highway have been a source of irritation for quite some time.

"They are an impediment to country business expansion and can be downright dangerous in an emergency when help is needed fast. It's vitally important that we keep chipping away at these black spots," Dr Gillespie said.

The tower will enhance services across the Kew community and boost coverage between Herons Creek and Cluleys Road.

Optus Territory general manager for Mid North Coast, Chris Simon said, with the Pacific Highway the main transport route on Australia's central east coast, it's important it offers commuters and travellers reliable mobile reception.

"Critically, this new site in Kew will help enhance in-vehicle coverage along the highway which is vital for those travelling along this stretch of road," Mr Simon said.

"We are continuing to follow through with our commitment to deliver improved services along the Pacific Highway, with this new site also enabling greater safety for those living and travelling through Kew by unlocking access to mobile voice, text and data services."
