And while there will be some strict measures to ensure social distancing and hygiene practices are in place, schools are ready to get back into learning.
Tacking Point Public School principal Phil Harris said the goal this week will be getting students back into a routine while continuing to embrace the new technology that has come to the forefront of learning.
He said he was incredibly proud of his staff and the way they embraced online learning and increased their technology skills during these unprecedented times.
"They have been on one of the steepest learning curves ever known and have embraced this with zest and passion to ensure the children were still learning," Mr Harris said.
"We are looking forward to having all 700 children back at school this week, albeit a bit different to pre-COVID 19."
Assembly and grade groups have been cancelled while measures have been put in place to minimise congestion at school pick-up. Children will eat recess and lunch in their classrooms to avoid mass grouping, rooms are ventilated and parents and visitors remain off-site.
The school's attendance rate has been 25 per cent higher than expected over the last two weeks during the staggered return to school due to the high number of essential workers in the school community, Mr Harris said.
"Our local schools including Port Macquarie Public, Westport Public, Hastings Public, Lake Cathie Public and Telegraph Point Public have been working closely using the theme 'reconnection' with our children and ensuring our communications are similar with the community of Port Macquarie," Mr Harris said.
The Department of Education has ordered more than 600,000 litres of hand sanitiser and one million packets of disinfectant wipes for distribution.
The NSW Government has also allocated $250 million to employ additional cleaners at schools and other public infrastructure.
The enhanced daily cleaning focuses on hard surfaces including handrails, light switches and door handles and ensures desks, tables and chairs are wiped down every day.
Students enrolled at St Agnes', St Joseph's and St Peter's primary schools and St Joseph's Regional College, MacKillop College and Newman Senior Technical College will also return to school classrooms full-time from Monday, May 25.
Coordinating executive officer for St Agnes' Parish Education, Stephen Pares, says the staged transition back into the classroom environment has gone well for St Agnes' Catholic Parish primary and secondary schools over the last couple of weeks.
"During this period, students and staff enjoyed being able to debrief about their experiences during their period of off-site learning," Mr Pares said.
"From Monday, all students from Kindergarten to Year 12 will return fulltime on-site to school, with the exception of those deemed vulnerable by a medical professional or those living in a home with vulnerable family members.
"I want to extend a big thank you to the families of students attending our schools and colleges, for their continued support and encouragement during this transition.
"Everyone is looking forward to getting back into routine, as much as is possible, while still being mindful of health and safety measures for hygiene and social distancing as outlined in State and Federal government communications and Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) protocols."
Social distancing requirements are in place for all adults on site and there will be limited access for parents and visitors to school grounds.
Learning on site will continue via a blended learning model, until Tuesday, June 9, after which the schools will return to face-to-face teaching and compulsory full-time attendance.
