The work is part of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's $36 million investment in roads and transport across the region during the 2019-20 financial year, and will start on Monday, May 25. Work is expected to take three weeks.
Director Dan Bylsma said this section of Lake Road is an important link to the Port Macquarie CBD, carrying more than 23,000 vehicles each day.
"Lake Road is also home to a busy medical precinct, and once complete, motorists and pedestrians will be able to pass through the area more safely whilst enjoying a smoother ride," Mr Bylsma said.
"Resurfacing this section of road now also means that ongoing maintenance costs will be significantly reduced."
Work will be completed in small sections during the day to minimise the impact on road users, residents and businesses.
The work at the Gordon Street roundabout will be undertaken at night to limit disruption.
Gordon Street roundabout night works will run from May 25-29, with the remaining work completed during the day between Monday, June 1 and mid-June.
Traffic along Lake Road will be reduced to a single lane, with traffic control and speed restrictions in place while the work is being undertaken.
Detours may also be in place along the route to ensure the safety of both the community and road workers.
"Residents and businesses may experience minor temporary access issues and we thank the community in advance for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place," Mr Bylsma said.
