At around 10pm, the man attended a fast food outlet in Taree, where staff noted his behaviour was similar to a person under the influence of some kind of substance.
After ordering his meal, the man allegedly said to staff: "How do you want me to pay, with the cash or the weed?"
He then allegedly placed cash and cannabis on the counter, paid for his meal with cash, and left the store.
The man was located a short time later by police in what appeared to be an intoxicated state.
He was searched and four grams of cannabis was allegedly found in his possession.
He is due to appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday, August 4.
