The first instalment of The Local fresh food market will be on Sunday, May 17 from 8am to noon and local producers from across the Mid North Coast will be converging on the beautiful grounds of the historic Maritime Museum to showcase their harvest.
Organised by Sarah Gale of Marketplace Events, the market will also celebrate the community-wide campaign to shop local as the region emerges from COVID-19 restrictions.
Sarah is expecting Sunday's event to be widely supported and so far has 12 local producers ready to offer up tasty treats from sourdough to lemon myrtle Anzac biscuits, coffees, cakes and the freshest fruit and vege straight from the farm.
"We really wanted to provide a beautiful space for all of our local producers to come together. It is a space for families to go and select their fruit and vege for the week, go home and prepare a meal with all the fresh produce they've bought," Sarah said.
"It's a great way to start a new week on a good note.
"It's also an opportunity for people to really ask where their produce is coming from. They can come to the market and actually see and speak to the person who made it.
"They know this food hasn't been over-handled, it's seasonal, it's fresh and it's the best thing we can do for our health. In these current times I think that is really important for people."
The Local will complement the Artist Market and Foreshore Market, both of which have been in hiatus since COVID restrictions were enforced.
On Sunday, there will be a limit to the number of people on the grounds and a two person per stall strategy throughout the day.
The market will be held every first, second and third Sunday of the month.
