Tracey Walsh said the project to rebuild the facility had been a long time coming, after it was originally built in the 1960s using second hand materials.
The Port Macquarie Sea Scouts Boating Centre is set to be completely rebuilt, following approval of a grant for $109,733 through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Funding program.
Tracey said the group currently has about 70 members and they enjoy participating in water sports, including canoeing and sailing.
The boat shed hosts a lot of equipment including canoes, sailing boats and an Inflatable Rescue Boat.
However, Tracey said the children have not been allowed to enter the building, given the health and safety issues which have arisen over time.
She said the building is very dangerous, as the wooden floors are rotting. As a result only some adults are able to enter the shed to access the equipment.
Once the shed is rebuilt, the children will once again be able to enter the shed, to undertake maintenance on equipment and help with the setting up and packing away for water activities.
The new building won't hold any additional equipment, as Tracey said the construction is limited to the small parcel of land the shed is situated on.
Tracey is grateful for her small team who took the time to undertake the application process for the grant.
The development application for the rebuild will go before Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for approval before construction commences.
The Bonny Hills Progress Association has also been granted $68,290 through Stronger Country Communities Funding program the to expand the Bonny Hills Community Hall, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said.
The hall has become unfit for purpose given its age and increased demands by a larger number of community organisations and members.
