There is a particular focus on the Bellingen and Coffs Coast areas, where there is potential for widespread falls of 50mm throughout the weekend with heavier localised falls possible.
NSW SES Northern Zone Deputy Commander said there is some chance of minor riverine flooding developing in the upper Bellinger into Sunday, with potential for flash flooding across parts of the Mid North Coast.
"The current pandemic environment presents several additional considerations for emergency services in responding to severe weather events," Mr Day said.
"So the most practical way the community can help the SES should the heavy rain eventuate is to avoid all not essential travel and to never drive, ride or walk through floodwaters."
The SES recommends people monitor the NSW Bureau of Meteorology for any severe weather warnings for heavy rain or riverine flood warnings.
People are also encouraged to use this weekend as an opportunity to check their home emergency kit, torches and portable radios.
