Council has postponed a planned visit to sister city Handa in Japan due to the international spread of the coronavirus.

The mayor, Peta Pinson, and up to two councillors were to visit Handa in April 2020 for the 30th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Handa and Port Macquarie.
Cr Pinson said the world had literally shut its doors and postponing the visit was the only viable option.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council staff will continue to liaise with Handa City and Handa International Association staff on the potential future timing of the visit to Handa and reciprocal visit by Handa officials to Port Macquarie.
Cr Rob Turner paid tribute to the Handa Sister City Working Group members, especially Bruce Hardy.
Members of the Handa Sister City Working Group were also to take part in the April visit.
The sister city relationship includes a student exchange program.
Students and teachers from Handa Higashi High School spend five days each year visiting Port Macquarie.
High schools from our region take turns to host the visiting students.
