That is the message from Business NSW Mid North Coast regional manager Kellon Beard to the business community in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

He advises businesses to keep up to date with official health advice, communicate with staff, look at work from home opportunities, keep in touch with customers and talk to suppliers.

Mr Beard said the coronavirus would have an increasing impact on businesses.

"It's going to be hard for businesses and they need to consider what they could do about that," he said.

"One of the things is to talk to your suppliers and talk to your customers - communication is key."

Mr Beard also advises businesses to be aware of what assistance is available to them after the bushfires.

Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce has released a COVID-19 response on its website.

The chamber recommends businesses have the necessary plans in place to operate as normal as possible, keep up to date with any developments around COVID-19 and amend plans accordingly, and communicate with staff and customers to reassure them there are appropriate plans in place.

The chamber also recommends businesses increase workplace hygiene practices and awareness, and review and communicate travel and sick policies with the team.

Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association president Janette Hyde encourages residents to support the area's businesses too.

She added if people were going away for a break, to consider our region as a destination.

"We are open for business," Mrs Hyde said.

"We welcome everyone coming to Greater Port Macquarie.

"If you decide to have a break, come and have it with us."

Mrs Hyde said businesses from cafes to restaurants and accommodation providers would welcome visitors with open arms.
