Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie hosted Explore Day on March 10 with 600 students from Gloucester to Coff Harbour and out to New England coming to town to explore what happens at university.
The day was aimed at students in years 10-12 and they spent the day participating in hands-on workshops led by teachers and current students as well as taking part in campus and accommodation tours and information sessions about scholarships, admissions, academic skills and other aspects of university life.
Charles Sturt director of external engagement Kate Wood-Foye said it was wonderful to feel the hype of students on campus.
"It is a very exciting day here for us as nearly 600 students have come along to find out more about their options for higher education," Mrs Wood-Foye said.
"It is a chance for them to experience some of the hand on learning students studying at Charles Sturt get and ask lecturers and students lots of questions."
Hastings Secondary College year 12 students Therese Familiar and Jordan Lynch came along for the day and said they had a great time exploring their options.
"I am wanting to see some of my options for next year and Charles Sturt is a good place to start," Jordan said.
"I have really enjoyed being hands on and asking questions about potential courses I had never heard of. There are lots of options I had not even considered so it has been a really good opportunity for me to find out more."
Therese said she was still deciding on what she where she wanted to go to university.
"It has been good finding out about university life and seeing the options available for me locally," she said.
Deputy vice-chancellor (students) Jenny Roberts said Explore Day gives senior high school students, as well as parents, guardians and careers advisers, a taste of life at Charles Sturt.
"The workshops, tours and information sessions provide visiting students with invaluable knowledge about courses, study, and life in general at the University," Ms Roberts said.
"Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie has state-of-the-art facilities which support our teaching staff to train job-ready graduates.
"Our graduates enjoy the highest employment rates of all Australian university graduates, and some of the highest average starting incomes."
