Coach Mick Grass knew his side faced a mammoth task before a ball was even kicked - and that's the way the match played out.
"They're a good side,'' Grass said of the visitors.
"It was a hard game to start the season for us.''
Grass said Mid Coast had a good 20 minutes in the first half where they set up goal scoring opportunities.
However, they were unable to convert and gradually the visitors took control.
"Fitness was a big thing as well,'' he said.
"We have to do extra fitness outside of our training sessions to match it with these sides.''
Grass said Courtney Anderson tried hard up front for Mid Coast and was their best player.
Evie Bobilak did some bright things in the midfield but was injured and had to be replaced midway through the game.
Newcastle Olympic fielded players the quality of former Emerging Jet Jemma House along with ex W-League stars Olivia Kennedy and Alesha Clifford and had too much class for the locals.
Mid Coast will be at home again on Sunday, this time against Warners Bay.
This will be Warners Bay's first outing for the season as the round one game was cancelled due to wet weather.
