I'd of course like to acknowledge our volunteers and emergency services who risk their own safety for the benefit of all.
Although many of council's staff have been engaged in dealing with emergencies and the aftermath, especially the fires, the normal business of council also continues.
Just some of the works of the past year include the major upgrade of Port Macquarie Airport Terminal, completed in November 2019, offering a much improved service for those travelling to and from our area by air.
Stage 1 of the Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill upgrade of our magnificent Coastal Walk was opened in December, offering improved access for more people including those with wheelchairs or prams, as well as a great new viewing platform. By June, the next stages of the Charlie Uptin Walk, Doctors Walk and Kenny Walk will also be completed.
For the many dog lovers among us there's a new off-leash dog park at the very popular Stuart Park, and council also continues its program to upgrade playgrounds across the region.
Flynns Beach sea wall - a huge engineering project - was completed in time for summer, with new beach access via the ramp and stairs, and handy beach showers.
Camden Haven's Beach to Beach Riverwalk is progressing well and, when complete, will offer 11 kms of continuous shared path from North Haven breakwall to Pilot Beach at Dunbogan. A fabulous asset for locals and visitors alike.
The streetscape of Wauchope CBD has been upgraded with landscaping, footpath refurbishment, improved pedestrian and traffic safety, and space for outdoor dining - it looks a treat.
These are just some of this year's $85 million in various projects council continues to roll out from its works program.
