The Port Macquarie Arts & Craft Centre have been busily assembling nesting boxes to be placed on the edges of areas affected by the recent bushfires.
The project is the brainchild of wildlife charity FAWNA.
It aims to provide alternate homes for wildlife such as possums, gliders, microbats and bird species that are dependent on tree hollows, so many of which have been consumed by the recent fire.
FAWNA coordinator Louise Moore said since the bushfires wildlife have been struggling and any help the public can provide is welcome.
"Most of our members are very time poor because they are looking after animals in their own home," she said.
Port Macquarie Arts and Craft Centre president Dr Mavourna Collits said the centre aimed to get as many members as possible involved in the project.
"A lot of people were painting while the woodies were putting everything together," she said.
"We have always had an interest in helping community groups because we have a lot of skills."
Kevin Carmody said there was a "good camraderie" among the members making the boxes.
"It is good to feel you are doing something to help out."
FAWNA would like private property owners backing onto bush close to the fires to contact them via the FAWNA line on 6581 4141.
