A host of academic and student services information sessions and social activities will be held both on-campus and in the city of Port Macquarie from February 25-28.
Approximately 735 on-campus students have been accepted to commence their studies with CSU at the Port Macquarie campus in 2020.
Charles Sturt Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Jenny Roberts said the program of events was designed to reflect the changing nature of the on-campus experience for commencing students.
"The orientation days will provide a cohesive and streamlined experience for our commencing students, with a focus on course-based activities and core information," Ms Roberts said.
"The University has gone to great lengths to offer campus-specific schedules with flexibility to facilitate the delivery of useful and engaging activities for our students.
"Charles Sturt University looks forward to welcoming these students to the Port Macquarie campus and helping them start their studies on the right foot."
The sessions and events offered across the four orientation days fall into three categories:
- Academic: meeting course directors and other academic staff, overviews of course requirements, first class checklists.
- Services and support sessions: discovering support available to help students boost study skills, manage finances, look after their health and more.
- University life: a range of social activities designed to build friendships and social networks.
The sessions will commence with an official welcome to campus from staff and student representatives starting at 11.30am on Tuesday.
Other events scheduled across the four days include a market day, river cruise, learn-to-surf lesson, paintball, beach games, an 'Amazing Race' around Port Macquarie, ten pin bowling, and Indigenous and international student support sessions.
Charles Sturt director of external engagement for Port Macquarie Kate Wood-Foye said orientation days were an important milestone for commencing students and part of an ongoing process offered by the University.
"Charles Sturt University maintains a schedule of support activities and workshops and organised social events throughout the first session of study," Ms Wood-Foye said.
"Social events are community focused, and aim to connect the students with both the campus as well as with the broader community in which they will be residing for the next three or more years.
"We look forward to meeting our newest students and making sure they feel ready and equipped for their first days of tertiary study."
