The awards were presented at Panthers Port Macquarie on February 11.
Van Der Veen's digital image showed a young girl and her pet dog and was titled I Really Love You. Madders' print image - Island Trader - showed the Island Trader heading out to see with the Lady Nelson Wharf in the foreground.
The awards night recognised the best photographs from the previous 12 months.
The judge for the night was Jean Ballards, who is a respected art and design teacher for over 28 years.
Jean has degrees from Melbourne and Curtin universities and has held a number of exhibitions of her work.
Her speech touched on giving people ideas to extend their thinking about photography.
This included learning from where you have failed and try alternate avenues to gain success.
Encouraging people to "think outside the square" and don't be afraid to try something different, was a constant theme of her speech.
Club president Tom Sheppard said Jean's presentation was thought provoking and will encourage members to try alternate approaches to their photography.
"Failure is part of learning," she said.
The photographic club boasts 48 members and meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
Activities include,
- Self/group evaluation of images, learn from each other's comments and improve our images,
- Trips - both several hours to overnight
- Competition both within the club with special judges or international competitions,
- Group workshop to share ideas and help solve problems,
- Lectures from a visitor with expertise in an area,
- Lecture/workshops on a strategy then we practice using the strategy and sharing results, and,
- Games nights, sharing group knowledge through quizzes.
"Personal interest groups where members gather at alternate locations are also part of the club's activities," Mr Sheppard said.
