There was a generous serve of laughter and excitement at Port Panthers in Settlement City on February 17, when the pair recognised Port Macquarie resident Linda Thompson.
Ms Thompson had been a childhood friend in Sydney and a guest at their wedding in 1973.
Mrs de Braun said there was a moment of instant recognition and surprise.
"I lived with Linda in a Summer Hill boarding house Sydney back in the early 1970s," she said.
"We became friends and later when I got married in March during 1973 in Wingham she came to our wedding."
Mrs de Braun, who moved to Wauchope two years ago, said it had been at least 40 years since their last meeting, until the Sensational Seniors Expo.
"I think Port Macquarie is doing a cycle (of people). I've found two second cousins here and I think we are meant to be here," said Mr de Braun.
"We do come across people here all the time here (in the Hastings).
"I've met a guy who I went to school with in year 10. He'd eventually moved to Harrington, the lunch catch up we had about it went for hours," laughed Mr de Braun.
Seniors from across the region gather for the expo of healthy, wealthy and wise advice each year in Port Macquarie. There are more than 90 exhibitors, performers, music and activities including The Z Chords, U3A Multicultural Dancers and Zumba Gold.
The free expo offers retirees access to information on health and aged care services, travel opportunities, sight-seeing tours, leisure and lifestyle activities.
There are also card demonstrations by the Bridge Club and food tastings by Catholic CCA and Omnicare. Seniors can also learn more about fly fishing, orchid growing and tennis.
