The council will be starting work on the historic timber and steel suspension bridge next Tuesday February 11.
The important structural repairs will prolong the life of the bridge and improve safety.
The first stage will see the bridge closed between 9am-3pm Monday to Friday, for approximately six weeks. During these times, there'll be no vehicle or pedestrian access across the bridge, so alternative access is via Pipeclay Road.
"Thanks for your understanding and patience," said a council spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the council are inviting the Long Flat community to get together and talk about recovery after the fires.
With the Federal government announcing that it will provide $1,000,000 to support the Port Macquarie-Hastings community to get back on its feed after the bushfires, the council would like to hear people's thoughts on how and where it should be allocated.
Everyone is invited to come along to a community get together next Monday February 10 at the Long Flat pub between 5:00pm and 6:30pm to share your ideas on bushfire recovery projects.
"Please encourage your friends and neighbours to come along and talk with Council staff and other support staff," said a council spokesperson.
