While visiting the Port Macquarie Museum recently I saw some black and white photos from the 50s and 60s of people swimming in a netted area near the breakwall and the wharf area at Town Green.

I think this would be a great place for an ocean pool, with inbuilt advantages.
The facilities are already in place - picnic area, toilets, restaurants and parking. Easy access for locals and tourists.
And netting is surely an affordable option.
