In a program designed and managed by Google, educators undergo intensive training combining classroom experience, training resources and examinations, to achieve the Google certified educator status.

Ms Lawler, who has been at St Peter's for 20 years, says she enjoyed taking on the challenge.

"We use the Google suite for most things at school, so it made sense to improve my skills," Ms Lawler says.

"Now I can better utilise the Google tools and incorporate them into my teaching to create better engagement for the children."

Ms Stewart has been at St Peter's for 2 years and is trained in Apple technology, previously becoming an Apple distinguished teacher.

"I have always had a keen interest in technology, particularly in the classroom," Ms Stewart says.

"Being that St Peter's is a Google-based school, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to build my skills to enhance my pedagogy."

"As Google certified educators, we're able to pass on the technology skills needed by students to become digital citizens of the world. This prepares them for future studies and employment."

Principal Geoff Leary says that certification benefits not only the students, but other teaching professionals.

"The Google Suite offers efficient forms of communication, research and presentation platforms, as well as provision for collaboration and sharing of ideas and concepts," Mr Leary says.

"There are other staff also engaged in the process of Google certification and all of our educators, including Learning Assistants, are encouraged to participate in this type of professional development."

Both Ms Lawler and Ms Stewart are considering undertaking the next level of training for Level 2 Google Certified Educators in 2020.
