The wildlife drinking station is one of 100 funded as part of Port Macquarie Koala Hospital's GoFundMe campaign.

The koala hospital launched the fundraiser in response to the bushfires.

Koala Conservation Australia president Sue Ashton said they were really pleased to have a wildlife drinking station at Sea Acres.

She said Sea Acres approached the koala hospital after noticing animals were thirsty.

The wildlife drinking station can be seen from the boardwalk.

Its installation was initiated by a couple of Sea Acres' National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff members, who are also active members of FAWNA.

A NPWS spokesperson said Sea Acres National Park was having one of the driest periods on record, so staff reached out to the koala hospital and asked if it would be possible to get a drinking station here in a non-traditional koala area, given a lot of other animals needed help.

"We are also using it as an educational talking point," the spokesperson said.

"Staff and guides show our visitors what it's all about, and how different organisations are working together in the community, with the koala hospital coming on board to look after lots of other wildlife in this crisis."

Wildlife drinking stations have been installed from Bellangry to Lake Innes Nature Reserve, Crowdy Bay National Park, Moree, Lismore and the Inverell area.

They provide a water source for koalas and other animals after the fires as well as in drought-affected areas.

Five wildlife drinking stations have been installed in the Blue Mountains as part of a research project.
