Mayor Peta Pinson said Australia Day was a time of reflection and gratitude to live in a country as wonderful as ours.
"Obviously the activities that are planned are going to be wonderful but just reflect on what it means to be Australian," she said.
Tacking Point Lions Club - Australia Day Working Group's Janice McGilchrist urged people to bring chairs or picnic rugs to "stay and play" at the Port Macquarie celebration.
Market and food stalls kick off the Sunday, January 26 activities on the Town Green from 8am.
A variety of organisations and clubs will have demonstrations and information.
Port Macquarie Dog Club will stage several agility and obedience demonstrations.
Mrs McGilchrist said as well as activities and games for the children, main stage entertainment would be local and varied - Sing Australia, Khristina and the Z Chords, the Hastings Municipal Town Band, the Day Trippers, and Blue Hype all generously contribute their time and talent.
Marine Rescue Australia Day coordinator Steve Thomas said once again there would be some terrific action on the Hastings River opposite Town Green.
The aquatic activities begin at 10.30am with a sail past.
People can enjoy the celebrations from the river, including a display of Sailability dinghies at McInherney Park, aboard Discovery 2 and The Southern Star with ticket sale proceeds going to Sailability Port Macquarie.
There will be a demonstration of restored Maritime Museum vessels on the river off the Town Green, Dragon Boat racing with the Flamin' Dragons Port Macquarie and a demonstration of rescue and water recovery skills from Marine Rescue Port Macquarie.
The aquatic program will conclude by 1pm.
Hastings District Highland Pipe Band will lead the official parade to the Town Green and Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus students and staff will start official proceedings by raising the flags at 3pm.
The official ceremony features the announcement of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Australia Day Award recipients and citizenship ceremony.
The Wauchope activities begin at the showground from 8am with activities ranging from children's games to music, vintage car, classic clipper buses, truck and machinery display and the official ceremony.
The celebrations in the Camden Haven start at 7.30am at Laurieton's Bruce Porter Reserve with the official ceremony from 8am.
The activities include an Australiana salute by Camden Haven Concert Band.
