Competitors from across Australia have been practicing throughout the week at Stoney Park for the prestigious Telegraph Point tournament on January 18 and 19.

Australia's top junior skiers will be showcasing their skills in trick, slalom and jumping competition categories.

Shepparton 15 year-old William Moroney said he has been professionally skiing for five or six years.

"I've been here a few times and competed last year. It's good fun," he said.

"I've got a few friends from other states and you get to hang out with people from across Australia.

"I'll be happy if I ski well. The adrenaline is up and you feel good when you land a good jump.

"Water skiing is a lot different to other sports, it can really fire you up."

Eleven year-old from Wagga, Cameron Shaw said he's been skiing competitively for four years.

"The competition isn't too much of a worry, you just have to focus on getting a score on the board," he said.

"You try to jump as far as you can without falling off. If you mess up your jump you can land on your back or your ski can get caught or you can tumble into the water.

"When you finish a jump it feels good to get points on all three jumps and you try to do that again."

The skiing will start with the under 10s and proceed to the under 12s, under 14s, under 17s and under 21s divisions.

Park owner Jason Stone said the masters is the biggest junior event of the year, outside of the national titles.

"It's all the top junior water skiers across the nation and Australian junior team selectors will be watching," he said.

"The quality of the competition is quite high with aerial somersaults, back and front twisting somersaults. Rope on toe tricks or spinning tricks, it is pretty wild to watch.

"This is one of the pinnacle events of the year and selectors will be looking to see who is at the peak of the results. They will be keeping their eye on who is competing at the highest level.

"We're excited to bring this event back to Port Macquarie and bring the top water skiers here again. It's great to have this on our calendar and we're looking forward to it."

The tournament will start at 7.30am each day and run until 5pm. There will be a familiarisation day on Friday, January 16 with the main competition on January 17 and 18.

Spectators are invited to attend with picnic blankets and watch the free event. There will be a canteen on site for food and drinks.

Port Macquarie skiers Riley and Tiger Stone will be competing to take out wins in their respective categories.
