Can Too Foundation is an independent health promotion charity committed to funding cancer research.
The Foundation has created pods or groups around the country who set targets to run and swim at organised events.
The Port Macquarie pod has raised over $35,000 for cancer research with participants running a half marathon and at two Sydney Harbour Bridge runs over 10 kilometres.
Now the pod members are turning their attention to a swim - the one kilometre ocean swim at Balmoral on April 5.
Port Macquarie pod spokesperson Sarah Wilcox says the goal setting, fundraising as a group and achieving goals all make Can Too a positive influence.
"We receive professional coaching and training through Can Too in return for fundraising for cancer," she said.
I'd never run competitively before joining Can Too and I will certainly be joining the swim program.

"Importantly, the fundraising is achieved as a group and we've already raised around $35,000.
"We have some of the original pod members - who started out competing in a half marathon - that will be joining this swim program.
"But we are looking for more people to come along and join the group," she said.
"We want to get more people involved because it means we will get to raise more funds for cancer research."
The run training included meeting two times a week to train and Ms Wilcox expects the swim program to be similar.
As well, the training programs are created to suit every member of the pod, no matter their experience or fitness levels.
"I'd never run competitively before joining Can Too and I will certainly be joining the swim program," she said.
"The training is designed to get people of all levels to achieve their goal.
"You don't really need to have any experience in this.
"Can Too's aim is to raise necessary funds while improving peoples' health and fitness levels."
Can Too Port Macquarie pod will hold an information session on Monday January 20.
Triathlon coach Melinda Cockshutt will assess people's levels of swimming ability and then organise a training program.
"People can come along and see if they are keen to participate before they register with Can Too," Ms Wilcox said.
Training is at the Port Macquarie Olympic Pool on a Friday from 5.30am until 7am and on Saturdays from 8am until 9.30am at Flynns Beach.
