"I've been drawing since I can remember," he said.
"It is a major part of my life."
Mr Murray studied art in Melbourne and Wollongong before returning to Port Macquarie to pursue his passion.
His art consists of landscapes of local beaches and the female form "in a surreal sort of way".
His inspiration?
"I really like Brett Whiteley, I love his surreal landscapes and cityscapes," he said.
His current exhibition ' Kind of Blue' is showing at Death Do Us Art at Flynns Beach.
"The title came from a comment from an older lady who said my art was kind of blue," he said.
The work is collection of art of Mr Murray's from the last two years.
Mr Murray has his art displayed around Port Macquarie including at a number of well-known eateries.
'Kind of Blue' is on at Death Do Us Art (3/4 Flynn St, Port Macquarie) until January 25.
