The business on lush acreage on the outskirts of Port Macquarie is their pride and joy.
But the last couple of months have tested them.
The Lindfield Park Road fire has been burning for six months and shows no sign of abating.
Firefighters are continuing to monitor the peat moss fire, where a rehydration project continues using reclaimed water.
The fire has had a devastating impact on the popular golf business and the couple's quality of life.
"The fires certainly are having an effect, particularly leading up to Christmas," Mrs Smith said.
"We have never seen it like this.
"The loss of customers, the closure of the Oxley Highway at times.
"Before Christmas there was a huge loss of trade, people just assumed you weren't open.
"We never ever shut, only on Christmas day, rain, hail or smoke."
Another resident on Lindfield Park Road Daniel Coleman described the last six months as "terrible".
"You can't breathe, you have to have the windows closed at night, you can't leave your clothes on the washing line," he said.
Mr Coleman said when the fire flared up in November a "wall of fire" surrounded him.
"The street was in panic mode.
"You couldn't go to work.
"An immense amount of animals died, there were kangaroos bouncing out of the bush and dying."
Mr Coleman owns a towing business and said the fire had caused havoc to his business as he couldn't access Lindfield Park Road at times.
Another resident Jenny said she was particularly concerned about the impact on her beloved horses.
"We have three horses on our property, two next door and they are just surrounded by smoke," she said.
"There will be some long-term impact on their health, but where do you move them? The whole country is on fire.
"I think the government is trying very hard now to help everybody but the only thing that is going to help anybody is rain.
"We are just praying for rain."
