Museum Selfie Day is on Wednesday, January 15 from 9.30am until 4.30pm where people can enter the premises for free.
"Museum Selfie Day is aimed at raising awareness of our history and cultural material collections. It encourages people to visit and interact with museums and collections in different and creative ways", says Port Macquarie Museum's president Clive Smith.
"This year we are offering free entry for the day to encourage as many people as possible to take part.
"We will also be offering hands-on exhibits across the day, to help people create a special selfie and a unique memory of their visit to our museum.
Visitors will be invited to share their selfies through social media platforms, using #PortMacquarieMuseum
Mr Smith said technology is helping museums across the world, including Port Macquarie, to reach and connect with audiences worldwide and to find new people to share collections and stories with.
"Museum Selfie Day is yet another way we are making our collections and their stories accessible," he said.
Th event encourages visitors to review and share their experiences on social media.
The community is invited to the event on Wednesday, January 15 to explore the local history collections of the Port Macquarie Museum, learn new facts, have some fun, create memories, share experiences and stories. It's a holiday activity for all ages.
